The Bartholomew County Sheriff's Office is pleased to announce the appointment of its new DARE Officer - Deputy Jessica Pendleton.

Deputy Pendleton began her career with the Sheriff's Office as a Reserve Deputy. She also worked in the jail where she rose to the rank of corporal. In 2009, Deputy Pendleton became a road patrol officer. In 2011, she was the Bartholomew County Sheriff's Office K-9 Officer and, on Feb. 1, 2015, she will become the Sheriff's Office DARE Officer.

Deputy Pendleton recently returned from DARE training where she was awarded a medal for being an outstanding team member.

"The DARE Training was very intensive," Pendleton said. "It was necessary to learn a variety of teaching styles in a short amount of time and the homework was usually 4 to 6 hours every evening.

"I look forward to this new assignment", said Deputy Pendleton.

Sheriff Matt Myers said the DARE officer performs a variety of duties.

"In addition to her duties in law enforcement, Deputy Pendleton will instruct students and other youth in the Drug Abuse Resistance Education program and coordinate program activities with local school administrators, teachers, parents and peers," Myers said.

In addition to her duties as the DARE officer, Deputy Pendleton will continue to perform a variety of law enforcement duties including those of responding to calls for service and serving civil papers.

Deputy Pendleton replaces long-time DARE Officer Pat Bryant who retired at the end of 2014.
