Press release

The Bartholomew County Sheriff's Office has received a grant, from the Columbus Regional Health Foundation, for seed funding to purchase Narcan, an antidote that can temporarily reverse the lethal effects of an opiate overdose caused by prescription medications or heroin.

Since Bartholomew County Sheriff's deputies are many times the first to arrive at the scene of an overdose, the equipment that they have available can mean life or death for someone.

Narcan is a prescription medication that blocks the effects and reverses an overdose. It does not require a medical professional to administer Narcan.

"Narcan will allow Bartholomew County Deputies to be able to counter the effects of an overdose which could potentially save someone's life," said Sheriff Matt Myers.

"CRH Foundation rarely funds first-responder equipment requests but this project was unique in several ways," explained CRH Foundation President Julie Abedian. "It was initiated by a CRH physician who trained Sheriff and Police department officers to administer the drug and CRH is making it possible for these county and city departments to purchase the drug at cost"This is a one-year grant that gets the County officers started and ensures that all first-responders in Bartholomew County are equipped to save lives in overdose situations."[[In-content Ad]]
