Sheriff's department receives grant for safety equipment

Press release

The Bartholomew County Sheriff's Department has received a grant to purchase safety equipment for officers.

Capt. Dave Steinkoenig applied for the $3,600 grant through the Indiana Homeland Security Grant Foundation for the purchase of patrol pocket packs. Patrol pocket packs, used to treat severe wounds such as a gunshot or knife wound, are contained in a weatherproof, vacuum sealed package that fits into the cargo pocket of a deputy's uniform.

Several county deputies recently attended training, organized by Deputy Chief Mike Kutsko of the Columbus Fire Department, which focused on self-rescue when severely wounded.

Bartholomew County EMA Director Shannan Hinton also assisted in the procurement of this grant.

"Because of limited funding within county government, the Sheriff's Office continually looks for grant opportunities in an effort to supplement our budget," Steinkoenig said.[[In-content Ad]]
