Sites set for local food summits

By From Jodee Ellett-

Press release

Local food summits will take place throughout Indiana this month, as well as in March and April.

Indiana's local food sales have more than doubled over the past 20 years, prompting more communities, individuals, leaders, and entrepreneurs to respond with initiatives to meet strong demand.

At these summits, you'll learn what's going on locally, engage with neighbors, plug into programs, voice opinions on strategy, and understand more about food hubs, food production, and farmers' markets.

I hope you'll join us, as you may be the next host of a local food summit. If you are working with a core group in your county pushing for local food system change, you may wish to bring them along.

The schedule is:

  • Columbus: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. EST, Tuesday, Feb. 23; Donner Center, 739 22nd St.

  • Seymour: 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. EST, Wednesday, Feb. 24; Jackson County Learning Center, 323 Dupont Drive

  • Fort Wayne: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. EST, Wednesday, March 16; Walb Union Classic Ballroom at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne

  • Lafayette: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. EST, Tuesday, April 12; Tippecanoe Arts Federation Building, 638 North St.

Cost is $15, which includes lunch, beverages, and materials.
