Virgil "Ike" Wasson, Jr., 86, Hope

Ike retired from working in maintenance at Cummins Engine Company. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953 during the Korean War.
He was a member of Hope United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the morning coffee bunch at the Corner Cafe in Hope. He was a member of the American Legion.
Ike enjoyed woodworking and had the experience of traveling to every state in the U.S.
Born on June 23, 1930, Ike was the son of Virgil and Thelma Gilliland Wasson. He married Lavon Joyce Sims on Aug. 21, 1954, and she survives.
Other survivors include daughters, Lisa (John) Long of Hope, Laura (Ben) Miller of Hartsville, and Vickie (Joe Talkington) Tedder of North Vernon; grandchildren, Nathan (Stephanie) Long, Nicholas Long, Jessica Miller, Jennie Miller, Jackie (Gabe) Nobbe, Josh Miller, Julia Miller, Nicole (Chad) Miller, and Aleah (Davis) Smith; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Ike is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Eva Mann.
The funeral will be Monday, Jan. 30th at 11 a.m. at Hope United Methodist Church with Rev. Warren Kirk officiating. Visitation hours were Sunday at the church and one hour prior to the service on Monday. Burial will follow at Hope Moravian Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.
