Winona Irene Simmons, 87, of Hartsville

She worked at KCL in Shelbyville for 6 years and at Hooks Warehouse in Indianapolis for 11 years.
Winona was a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ in Shelbyville. She liked to do crafts and sewing. She enjoyed shopping, going out to eat and to the movies. She liked to travel and visited Las Vegas and Florida numerous times. Winona also went on many day trips with her friends.
Born on Oct. 17, 1929 in Adams, IN, Winona was the daughter of William and Irene Seitz Gay. She graduated from St. Paul High School in 1947. She married Lawrence Simmons on Nov. 12, 1949. He preceded her in death on Dec. 26, 1994.
Survivors include children, Gary (Sonya) Simmons of Columbus and James (Rosemary) Simmons of Hartsville; grandchildren, Scott (Angie) Simmons of Elizabethtown, Lori (Todd) Foster of Taylorsville, Amy (Eric) Handley of Hope, Lisa Simmons, and Amanda Simmons, both of Greensburg; great-grandchildren, Chelci, Dexton, Andrew, Kane, Kyle, Cameron, Forest, Keaton, Jeralynn, Stacie, Nakisha, and Patrick; three great-great grandchildren; siblings, Harold (Alice) Gay of Davis, CA, Lester (Doris) Gay of Greensburg, Janet Wilson of Greensburg, and sister-in-laws, Jean Gay of Martinsville, Kathryn Moore, and Helen Phillips, both of Greensburg.
Winona is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her brother, Robert Gay.
Cremation is planned. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 14th at 6 p.m. at Norman Funeral Home in Hope with Rev. David Humphrey officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
