J.T. Compton, 82, of Hope
J.T. Compton, 82, of Hope, passed from this life on April 11, 2018 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
Born on Nov. 26, 1935 in Weed, Kentucky, J.T. was the son of Riley and Della Rae (England) Compton.
J.T. attended the Faith Chapel Church and enjoyed discussing salvation with Pastor Dave Bragg.
He touched thousands of lives, as a school bus driver and businessman, in and around the Hope area, during his life and will be missed by everyone who knew him.
J.T. operated three different service stations in Hope during the 1960's, Jay's Bait Shop during the 1970's on the Hope Square, and Jay's Carpet Installation for 40 years. He also delivered milk for Meadow Gold. He was a greens mower and maintenance assistant at Clifty Creek Golf Course. J.T. retired in December 2018 after driving a school bus for Flat Rock-Hawcreek School Corporation for 56 years.
J.T. was an avid sportsman and enjoyed many hobbies in life, including fishing, hunting, and was an outstanding archery competitor. J.T. also enjoyed golfing at Clifty Creek with his buddies, Dave Thayer and O.J. Thayer. He was nicknamed "Tee Man - Golf Pro."
J.T. enjoyed listening to music on the Hope town square during Heritage Days. J.T. and his brothers owned the land where they attended school as children and he lovingly cared for the property after their deaths, keeping the trees trimmed and grass mown until he was no longer able to continue keeping the property maintained.
He enjoyed attending family reunions each year in the Columbia, Kentucky area, where he grew up.
J.T. is survived by his wife of 61 years, Norma Ruth (Kanouse) Compton; children, Mike (Donita) Compton of Columbus and Deborah (Chris) Andrews of Mooresville; grandson, Ian (Kaetlin) Andrews; and great-granddaughter, Wren Andrews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Stanley Compton and Charlie Compton.
In keeping with the family's wishes, a public graveside service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Hawcreek Cemetery with Pastor Dave Bragg officiating. A celebration of life gathering will be held at Clifty Creek Golf Course at a future date. All of J.T.'s friends and family are invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to support the Hauser Golf Team and Our Hospice of South Central Indiana through the funeral home.
