Howard W. Mize, 87, of Hope

Howard W. Mize, 87, of Hope, died Friday, Dec. 7th, 2018 at Miller’s Merry Manor.

Howard retired from Cummins. He had also worked for Keller-Newsom Auctioneers and did some farming. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1949 to 1957. Howard was a member of First Baptist Church of Hope and American Legion.

He enjoyed boating, fishing, and woodworking.

Born on June 28, 1931 in Seymour, Howard was the son of George Lee and Bernice Irene Tuell Mize. He married Clora M. Renner on July 13, 1956.

Survivors include wife, Clora, of Hope; children, Karen Mize of Hope, Dennis (Cheryl) Mize of Hope, and Alan (Rayetta) Mize of Columbus; grandchildren, Brandon (Jessica) Mize of Columbus, Bret (Danielle) Mize of Hope, Austin Mize of Columbus, and Bryce (Bethany) Mize of Hope; great-grandchildren, Zoey, Camden, Ethan, Emery, and Gibson Mize, and Hailey Shaw; brother, Donald (Marilyn) Mize of Columbus; and sister-in-law, Betty Ann Mize of Sikeston, MO.

Howard is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Madeline Burton; and brothers, Robert Lee Mize and George Lee Mize Jr.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Norman Funeral Home with Tim Dillingham officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at Hope Moravian Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions may be given to Just Friends Adult Day Services or Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
