Hope man accused of drunk driving in Columbus

Columbus police officers arrested a Hope, Indiana man for operating a vehicle while intoxicated Friday night after he nearly struck another vehicle on US 31 near 25th Street.
At approximately 8:20 p.m. CPD officers stopped the driver, Dustin R. Chaney, 25, of Hope near 15th Street and Washington Street. The officers noted that Chaney was having difficulty following directions and appeared to be under the influence of an unknown intoxicant.
Chaney exited his truck and the officers administered several field sobriety exercises. He was later transported to Columbus Regional Hospital for a blood test. At the conclusion of the test, Chaney was placed under arrest. Prior to towing Chaney’s vehicle, officers located a bag containing synthetic marijuana.
Chaney was remanded to the Bartholomew County Jail on the following preliminary charges:
- Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated
- Possession of a Synthetic Drug
