Business profile - Miller's Merry Manor
The face of short- and long-term senior care is certainly changing, says Amber Busald, administrator for Miller’s Merry Manor in Hope. Patient and family goals are more aligned with getting individuals the necessary assistance and tools needed for recovery and to facilitate a return home. In a recent conversation, Busald discussed the services offered by Miller’s Merry Manor and the benefits of those services for Hope area residents and their families.
How many residents does the facility serve?
We can serve up to 75.
What types of services do you offer?
We are rehab and long-term care facility. We do rehab-to-home. We have a program where people who have surgery, and their goal is to return home, they come in and get aggressive therapy and can return home as soon as they are able. We set up services for them upon leaving our facility, such as equipment and nursing assistance. We also offer long-term care which is what nursing homes are known for, but that is changing. For most people, their goal is to go home and that is what our big focus is. We also offer out-patient therapy similar to other clinics. People can come to our rehab department, receive therapy and return home after their appointment like they would anywhere else.
What is the age range of patients you serve?
It depends on the population. Right now it is 40 to 103 years old.
What types of activities do you offer residents?
It depends on the population and what interests them and that changes week to week. We take them on outings, like going out to eat and on shopping trips, which is what they are used to. We also have in-house activities.
What are some of the in-house activities?
We have library services and the typical bingo. They do crafts and anything you can think of.
How long has the Miller’s Merry Manor organization been around as a company?
To my knowledge, the company as a whole celebrated the 50th anniversary a few years ago. They have grown over the years. Our facility here is currently under a remodeling process where they are renovating the entire interior of the building and expanding the entrance and dining services area, as well as the rehab facility.
How many employees do you currently have?
About 70.
What would you say is the biggest benefit you offer the patients?
Being close to their families. Their families can come visit more often. We have people who visit every single day and I love seeing that.
How would you define the importance of this type of facility for the Hope community?
It is huge. People have needs for their loved one and they can come locally without having to drive into Columbus. It has been a great service and the Hope community is very supportive of us.
