Driver falls asleep at wheel; arrested on drug charges

On, May 1st at about 4:33 a.m., Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Sergeant Kris Weisner was dispatched to the area of County Roads 600E and 850S in reference to a reported vehicle abandoned in the roadway.
On arrival, Sgt, Weisner found Gary L. Petro, 35, 5350 North County Road 700W, Scipio, IN, asleep in the driver’s seat.
Sgt, Weisner allegedly located a corner cut baggie containing a white substance on Mr. Petro’s person. Petro advised the substance was methamphetamine.
Petro was taken to the Bartholomew County Jail on a preliminary charge of possession of methamphetamine. He remains in the Bartholomew County Jail in lieu of $57,500 bond.
All persons are considered innocent until/unless proven guilty in a court of law.
