Hartsville man arrested after Columbus traffic stop

A Hartsville man is in custody after he was arrested by Columbus police officers for warrants and drug charges on Monday afternoon.
At approximately 5:35 p.m., Columbus Police Officers Kyle Young and Travis Harbaugh were on patrol near Ross Street and Ohio Street when they observed Robert W. Hiatt, 25, traveling in a vehicle. The officers confirmed two local warrants for Hiatt’s arrest and stopped his vehicle a short time later.
Hiatt was placed under arrest and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail. While at the jail, officers noted that Hiatt appeared visibly nervous, however, he denied having anything illegal with him. During a secondary search of Hiatt, the officers located a small case containing syringes, drug paraphernalia and methamphetamine that Hiatt allegedly attempted to hide in his clothing.
Hiatt was remanded to the jail staff on the following preliminary charges:
- Two Bartholomew County Warrants
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
- Possession of a Legend Drug Injection Device
- Possession of Methamphetamine
- Trafficking with an Inmate
