Yellow Trail Museum starting new discussion groups
The Yellow Trail Museum Board is constantly looking for stories and memories of residents and past residents of our community. And we also love to record stories that have been handed down to others.
Along this line, we began monthly discussion groups this year which were a coffee and snack time for people to come in and share. We first began these on Tuesday mornings, but found that we didn't get a very big crowd. Our next step was to try the first Sunday of each month from 2 to 4 p.m., at the museum. We feel this might allow more to venture in with memories, so we hope to continue this plan through the summer months.
In the meantime, some of the museum board members are now working with Hope's Main Street to develop a new walking tour of Hope. We have decided the tour needs to include some stories about various places in town. We are beginning to record information about businesses and other buildings around the square.
This is where we need members of the community. Who has stories about the embezzlement from the local bank? Who can remember things about Dalmbert's store before the fire? Does anyone have recollections of Stapp Drugs or Helm's Drugstore? And what about Norton's? Anyone have stories about Spaugh's Garage and the Yellow Trail? What about the early post offices in town? How can we leave out the Hope Independent Telephone Company? Did anyone work for Callie Herron at the Grill? Or what about the other local restaurants? Barber shops? Grocery stores? Hardware stores? The movie theater or bowling alley? And what about events in the Town Square?
These are only a few ideas we would like to explore. Why not join us on Sunday, June 3rd, at 2 p.m., at the Yellow Trail Museum to share or just listen to stories.
