Warren C. Burks-Bey Jr., 81, Hope
Brother Warren C. Burks-Bey Jr., 81 years young, born July 23, 1936, fulfilled his earthly tasks and was called home to rest on Tuesday morning, May 15, 2018. He passed away at Miller’s Merry Manor.
Warren was one of six children born to the late Warren C. Burks, Sr. and Ethel (Smith) Burks in Covington, Virginia.
He was obligated in marriage to Delores Johnson-Bey on September 24, 1983 and they resided in Hope, Indiana.
Brother Warren Burks-Bey was affectionately called “Moe” by family and friends. He was a very charitable, good natured, loving person. Moe was a Member of the Moorish Science Temple of America, Inc. and proclaimed his nationality as a Moorish American. He truly embraced and lived the grand principles of his faith, Love, Truth, Peace, Freedom, and Justice. Brother Moe did not speak ill of others and many times in conversations with others, he would often say, “they good people.”
Moe graduated from Watson High School, in Covington, VA., in 1954. After graduation, he served in the United States Air Force. He returned back to Covington, VA, where he worked at the Westvaco Paper Mill from 1960 to 1993. Moe was also a business owner and operated a barbershop in Covington, VA.
Moe loved yard work and gardening, reading books, and watching movies. Moe also enjoyed bowling and was a member of a bowling league for many years. He was a very intelligent man and was very informed when discussing current news events. Above all else, the one thing he loved most was being with family and friends.

Grand Sons, Arnold and Inri Palacios both of Columbus, IN, one Great Grand Daughter, Nadia Jackson of Dublin, VA. Siblings, one Sister, Louise Burks Ford of Greensboro, NC, Brothers, Frank (Rose) Burks of Dayton, OH, Walter (Jammarilla) Burks of Roanoke, VA, an Uncle, Robert “Smitty” (Delores) Smith of Washington, DC. Brother-in-laws, James (Nadine) Johnson-Bey of Hope, Reuben Johnson-Bey of Chicago, IL, Elihu (LeeDrella) Johnson-Bey of Hope, IN, Ishmel Johnson-Bey of Hope, Samuel Johnson-Bey of Columbus, IN, Sister-in-Law, Sarah (William) Jones-Bey of Hope, Indiana. In addition, Moe leaves to cherish his memory a host of nieces and nephews, friends, including special friends Augustine “Spud” and Ellen Penn of Covington, VA and Diane Twitty of Covington, VA.
Brother Warren was preceded in death by his father, Warren C. Burks Sr. and mother, Ethel (Smith) Burks, brothers Robert Burks and Charlie Burks.
A service will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. at Norman Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of service. Burial will follow at Sharon Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Moorish Science Temple of America.
