Samuel W. Swinford, 80, of Flat Rock, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2018 at IU Med Center.
Samuel was a farmer all of his life. He served in the United States Army.
He was a member of Hope Moravian Church, Farmers Masonic Lodge #147, Scottish Rite, Murat Shriners, and Blue River Foundation. Samuel was a board member of Shelby County Co-op for 30 years. He was Past Patron of Flat Rock OES 473.
Born on July 24, 1938 in Flat Rock, Samuel was the son of Joseph B. and Madge N. Nading Swinford. He married Barbara Jo Adams on Sept. 8, 1957 at Hope Moravian Church and she survives.
Other survivors include children, Joy (Tom) Lux of Shelbyville, Amy Swinford of Flat Rock, Jan Rulon of Cicero, and Aaron (Jessyca) Swinford of Flat Rock; grandchildren, Eric Lux, Kathleen Rulon, LeAnn Lux, Benjamin Swinford, Dannielle Rose, Karissa Rulon, and Megan Swinford; and sister, Jo Nadine "Jody" (Frank) Chalfant of Coatsville, IN.
Samuel is preceded in death by his parents; and an infant son, Ben Eugene.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at Hope Moravian Church with Pastor Andy Kilps officiating and eulogy given by Kenny Chandler. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church. Burial will follow at Hope Moravian Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to Hawcreek-Flat Rock Endowment or Flat Rock Cemetery Fund (through Blue River Foundation).
