Claude E. “Ted’ Johns, 90, of North Vernon
Claude E. “Ted’ Johns, 90, of North Vernon, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2018 at his home.
Claude was retired from the factory at Cummins. After retirement, he worked as a security guard and 20 of those years were at Cummins. He served in the United States Air Force as an Airman First Class from 1952 to 1956.
Claude was a member of Restoration Fellowship Church, the Diesel Union at Cummins, and the VFW.
He enjoyed watching racing and sports. He loved spending time with family, going to church, and listening to music.
Born on April 19, 1928 in Morristown, TN, Claude was the son of Mack Henry and Okie Brewer Johns. He married Anita Toliver on March 5, 1965 in Carrollton, KY, and she survives.
Other survivors include children, Claudette (Tony) Mee of Hope, Steve (Lynn) Johns of North Vernon, Bruce Johns of Daytona, FL, Michael (Norma) Johns of Columbus, Michelle (Bryan) Johns Paglione of Spring, TX, and Michael (Cammie) French of Hope; grandchildren, Joshua (Chloe Fields) Shepherd, Caleb (Megan) Shepherd, James (Olivia King) Mee, Ashton (Jonathan) Shepherd Hibbs, Jacob Mee, Noah Mee, Addison Mee, Steven Johns, Tyler (Peyton Jones) Mee, Justin Johns, Jessica Johns, Stephanie Johns, Chris (Toni) Lauderbaugh, Ian Johns, Miranda (George) Johns Cummings, Jessica (Jacob) Johns Bender, Ethan (Deonna) Johns, Emily Johns, Lauren Paglione, Anita (Greg) King, Colt (Emily) Evans, Tommy Nickel, Matthew Sexton, Cassie Sexton, and William Temple II; 22 great-grandchildren; brother, Albert (Maxine) Johns of Lakeland, FL; and sister-in-law, Ruth Johns of Shelbyville.
Claude is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, J. Walter Johns and Mack Henry “Dean” Johns; daughters, Melissa Johns and Valerie Evans; son, Mark French; granddaughter, Adalyn Mee; and grandson, Ted Johns.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m. at Norman Funeral Home with Pastor Gil Hawkins and Pastor Ray Jones officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Hawcreek Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Paralyzed Veterans of America or Restoration Fellowship Church.
