Thelma Jo Brown Harper, 87, of Hope

Thelma Jo Brown Harper, 87, of Hope, died Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at her home.

Thelma spent most of her life as a homemaker. She was a member of Freedom Missionary Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed quilting.

Born on April 19, 1931 in Edmonton, KY, Thelma was the daughter of Clem and Cora Fields Brown. She married Elmer Harper on August 10, 1946 inĀ Edmonton, KY, and he preceded her in death on January 30, 1986.

Survivors include children, Jo Ann Burton, Sheila (Junior) Shirley, and Bruce (Shorty) Harper; daughter-in-law, Claudia Fox; grandchildren, Karl (Dawn) Fields, Lori (Pat) McQueen, Tim Fields, Kevin Fields, Tammy (Zack) Davis, Wendy (Tom) Reitman, Isaac (T.J.) Reed, Christy (Danny) Holzer, Amy (Steve) Long, Shelly Shirley, Betsy (Rob) Green, Derek Harper, Doug (Miranda) Abney, and April Abney; 23 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and brother, Charles Brown.

Thelma is preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Willis Harper; brothers, Walter, James, Tommie, Clay, Leroy, Wayne, Selby, and Raymond Brown; and sisters, LouEtta Smith, Phebie Gibson, and Kathryn Fields.

A service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at Norman Funeral Home with Brother Aaron Shirley officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Hope Moravian Cemetery.
