Maxine Howard, 83, formerly of Hartsville

On Dec. 20, 2019 Maxine Howard of Madison, Georgia was ushered into her heavenly reward where she was greeted with the words “Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.”

Maxine was born on Feb. 18, 1937 in Hartsville, Indiana where she lived for 80 years. She was the daughter of Grant & Lura Shepherd, also of Hartsville. Maxine was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, James Hubbard Howard, brother Russell Shepherd, her twin brother Max Shepherd, and sisters Thelma Gividen and Ruth Boyle.

Maxine is survived by her sons J.D. Howard of Hartsville, David Howard (Ivanna) also of Hartsville and daughters Debbie Pittman (Darryl) of Madison, GA and Mitzie Shipley of Columbus. Grandchildren Carrie Miller (Tim) and Ashly Hunt (Chad) of Madison, Ga., Gigi Shipley and Mitchell Shipley of Columbus, Daniel, Isabella, and Kristen Howard of Hartsville, Trisha Howard (Ashton) of Columbus, Julie Greer (Eric) of Louisville, KY.

Maxine loved her family and friends well. She enjoyed cooking, attending events for the grandchildren and Women’s Bible study groups. She was a beloved member of Remembrance Community Church of Madison, GA and former long term member of Hartsville Baptist Church.

Mam-Maw Howard was loved by all her Grandchildren and great Grandchildren. Her legacy and memory will live on in the hearts and minds of all who loved her.

Funeral services will be conducted at Norman Funeral Home in Hope, IN with visitation on Friday, Dec. 27 from 4 to 7 p.m. The funeral service will be on Saturday, Dec. 28 at 11 a.m. Burial will be at the Hope Moravian Cemetery.
