A Hope man is under arrest after a chase of a stolen vehicle in Johnson and Marion counties Tuesday.

Antoine D. Ford, 31, of Hope, is being charged with auto theft, battery and resisting arrest.

Johnson County Sheriff's Department reports that deputies were called to a reported disturbance in the 5200 block of County Road 525E in Whiteland at about 10:40 a.m. Tuesday.

Deputies met two people who said that two individuals told deputies that two suspects had stolen their vehicle, a white Ford Escape and fled. The vehicle's description was broadcast to law enforcement and the Greenwood Police Department located the vehicle near Main Street and County Road 325E. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle although the driver refused to pull over.

Police say that the driver led Greenwood Police Department, Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, Indiana State Police, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department and the Beech Grove Police Department, through the streets of southern Marion County, until he bailed out of the vehicle at the Beech Grove Middle School, and ran away. He was caught a short while later and identified as Ford.

Police suspected that Ford ingested narcotics prior to being arrested and he was taken by ambulance to an area hospital.

One Indianapolis police vehicle was damaged during the pursuit.

Johnson County deputies report that Ford knew the victims and had been in the car with them riding from Columbus, that illegal drugs were involved and that neither the victims nor Ford are cooperating with police.
