Loval Lorene Hjelter, 88, of Columbus

Loval Lorene Hjelter, 88, of Columbus passed away Jan. 8, 2019 at Silver Oaks Health Campus.

She was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and the “Red Hot Chili Peppers” Red Hat Society.

Born April 14, 1930 in Petersville, Loval was the daughter of Raleigh and Alta Bickley Henry. She married Odean E. “Ed” Hjelter, Sr. December 31, 1952 at the First Christian Church in Columbus.

Survivors include her husband, Ed of Columbus; a son, Odean E. “Buzz” Jr. (Barbara) Hjelter of Taylorsville and a granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth (Adam) Meredith of Evansville.

The funeral will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Norman Funeral Home in Hope. Visitation will be Friday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be donated to Our Hospice or the Bartholomew County Humane Society.

Loval enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and especially enjoyed her time spent with her only grandchild, Mary Elizabeth.

Loval was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Willard, Deloris and Odella Henry and Louise McClain.
