Joe M. Baker, 93, of Columbus
Joe M. Baker, 93, of Columbus, died Saturday Jan. 12, 2019 at Our Hospice Of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
He was retired from Michigan/Wisconsin Pipeline as a mechanic.
He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII
Born Jan. 25, 1925 in Flat Rock, IN, Joe was the son of William and Elsie Tinsley Baker. He married Lois Cochran February 4, 1946 in Shelbyville, IN and she survives.
Other survivors include, children, Phil (Susie) Baker of Columbus, Mike Baker (Cynthia Stuart) of NC, Jane Baker (Wanda Ferguson) of North Vernon, Peggy (Mark) Maze of Columbus; daughter-in-law, Nancy Baker of Nashville, TN; 12 grandchildren and 17 great- grandchildren.
The funeral for Joe will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Norman Funeral Home in Hope with Pastor Steve Bell officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 to 7 and Thursday one hour prior to service time at the funeral home. Burial with military graveside rites performed by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard will be at Flat Rock Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be donated to Foundation For Youth or Disabled American Veterans.
Joe loved hunting, fishing and reading. He was an I.U. Basketball and Cincinnati Reds fan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Steve Baker; grandson, Eric Baker; brother, William Baker and sister, Doris Gohn.
