Hope man accused of scuffle with Columbus police

Columbus police officers arrested two people on felony drug charges during a traffic stop on Tuesday afternoon.
At approximately 5:20 p.m., CPD officers stopped a vehicle on County Road 200 South for a minor violation. A short time later, officers determined that a passenger in the vehicle, Jared R. Turner, 31 of Hope, had an active arrest warrant.
Turner refused to exit the vehicle and began reaching towards the back seat of the car. Turner was removed from the vehicle and taken into custody after a short scuffle. The officers later located a bag of heroin in the back seat of the vehicle near where Turner was seated.
During a search of the vehicle, officers also located drug paraphernalia as well as heroin inside a purse that belonged to another passenger who was identified as April N. Retz, 27, of Columbus.
Both Retz and Turner were placed under arrest and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail. While at the jail, the corrections staff advised that they located heroin that Retz had concealed in her clothing. Prior to leaving the jail, a CPD officer located heroin and methamphetamine that Retz attempted to conceal in the back seat of his patrol car.
Retz and Turner were remanded on the following preliminary charge:
- Turner: Possession of Heroin (Level 6 Felony), Possession of Methamphetamine (Level 6 Felony), Resisting Law Enforcement (Class A Misdemeanor), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Class C Misdemeanor) Bartholomew County Warrant
- Retz: Dealing in Methamphetamine (Level 2 Felony), Dealing in Heroin (Level 4 Felony), Possession of Methamphetamine (Level 6 Felony), Possession of Heroin (Level 6 Felony), Obstruction of Justice (Level 6 Felony), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Class C Misdemeanor).
The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office assisted during the traffic stop.
