Dangerously cold temperatures continue
The National Weather Service in Indianapolis is warning of dangerously cold temperatures in our area through Thursday afternoon. A Wind Chill Warning is in effect until 1 p.m Thursday. Frostbite can occur on exposed skin in as few as 10 minutes under these conditions.
Flat Rock-Hawcreek Schools are on a two-hour delay today, Thursday Jan. 31st.
A Wind Chill Warning means the combination of very cold air and the wind will create dangerously low wind chill values. Frostbite can occur quickly and even hypothermia or death if precautions are not taken.
Wind chills as low as 45 degrees below zero are expected. That is being caused by air temperatures as low as minus 4 Wednesday night and regular winds of 11 to 18 mph, with gusts of up to 33 mph. The high Wednesday is only expected to be 3 degrees.
There is a chance of flurries before 10 a.m. Wednesday and after 1 p.m. Thursday.
The Bartholomew County Emergency Management Agency is reporting that there are no plans to restrict travel on county roads, as the advisory system is based upon the road conditions due to ice and snow not due to extreme temperature conditions.
However, officials are suggesting that if you have to travel you should have an emergency kit for your car and include items such as a blanket, water and snacks. Make sure your cell phone is charged and you have at least a half tank of gas.
