Deputies and marshals make sweep of listed sex offenders
By Bartholomew County Sheriff's Department-
Press Release
On Thursday, Nov. 14th, deputies with the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office partnered with members of the U.S. Marshal Service to conduct a county-wide surprise check on registered sex offenders.
Deputies conducted surprise offender checks on about 100 sex offenders throughout Bartholomew County to determine the validity of information provided by individuals currently registered with Bartholomew County’s Sex Offender Registry.
Adolfo “Rudy” Olivo, a former detective lieutenant with the Columbus Police Department, is the sex offender coordinator for the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office. Olivo coordinates and implements Sex Offender Registration for BCSO in compliance with the laws of the state of Indiana.
Convicted sex offenders are required to report any residential and/or employment changes to the Sheriff’s Office within 72 hours of the change.
Four individuals were found to be out of compliance with the terms of their registry. These individuals could face additional charges.
One arrest was made during the sweep when an offender was found to be in possession of marijuana.
This sweep was conducted in addition to regular checks that are conducted by Olivo and deputies throughout the year.
Olivo also maintains the Indiana Offender Registry for Bartholomew County which requires working with several local and state agencies.
“Many people don’t realize that local sheriffs maintain and update sex offender registration information”, said Bartholomew County Sheriff Matthew A. Myers. “Monitoring sex offenders, running the offender registration and profiles, making door-to-door check-ins, is a very labor intensive and time consuming effort.
“BCSO is extremely lucky to have former police detective Rudy Olivo as our Sex Offender Coordinator."
