Clara Mae Chipman, 91, of Greensburg

Clara Mae Chipman, 91, of Greensburg, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2019 at her home.

Clara had previously worked as a server at Big John’s Truck Stop in Greensburg and spent most of her life as a homemaker.

She was a member of Mt. Aerie Baptist Church in Letts and Forest Hill Homemakers. She enjoyed reading, sewing, and canning foods.

Born on Feb. 10, 1928 in Bartholomew County, Clara was the daughter of Frank and Alma Burnes McNealy. She married Leason Gurley on Aug. 3, 1957, and he preceded her in death on May 3, 1975. She then married Harold Chipman and he preceded her in death.

Survivors include sons, Lester Gurley of Greensburg and Loren Gurley of Jeffersonville; grandchildren, Loren Gurley Jr. of Greensburg, Robert Gurley of Greensburg, Jeanie Mohr of Shelbyville, and Ricky Russell of Muncie; and great-grandchildren, Cody Russell of Rush County.

Clara is preceded in death by her parents; husbands; son, Robert Lewis Menafee; daughter, Barbara Russell; and siblings, Arthur, Joseph, Alice, Charles, Frieda, Pauline, Marcile, Hubert, Fred, Nelda, and Chester.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Norman Funeral Home. Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mt. Aerie Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to Mt. Aerie Baptist Church.
