Chiropractor continuing Dr. Sweet's work in Hope practice
For more than 20 years, Dr. Greg Sweet served the Hope community through his work at his chiropractic office housed in the former post office building just off the town square. And since his untimely passing in July, friends and family are rallying together to preserve his legacy.
In August, Sweet’s personal doctor and long-time friend Deanna Pacilio announced she would be permanently taking over the practice.
“Dr. Sweet and I have been friends for more than 20 years,” she says. “Through just the normal course of events, when I got word that he had this incident, I just wanted to kind of sweep in and do something to help the family.”
As is the case when dealing with any tragedy, Pacilio says it is taking time for she and the staff to adjust and the best thing they could do was to try and keep everything as normal as possible.
“In the beginning, it was very hard because we were all dealing with our own feelings and emotions,” she says. “Everyone on staff was very professional and understood that we need to keep our head level, be professional and help patients through their grief.”
Pacilio says she will see patients in the Hope community two days per week while sharing her time at her own practice, Pacilio Chiropractic in Greensburg.
This Saturday, Pacilio and the staff of Sweet Chiropractic will be hosting an open house from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the office, she says. There will be plenty of good food, including burgers, hot dogs, drinks and cupcakes, and, of course, great company and plenty of memories and stories to be shared in honor of Sweet.
Having only worked in the community for a short time, Pacilio says she understood early on why Sweet loved the Hope community so much. It simply comes down to the people, she says.
“They’ve just been so gracious that I would even be there,” Pacilio says. “It just shows you how wonderful this small community is. I understand why Greg loved it so much because the people he served are just kind people.”
