Monday night crash closes State Road 9

A driver was flown by Lifeline helicopter to an Indianapolis hospital after a Monday evening crash closed State Road 9.

Bartholomew County deputies were dispatched to a personal injury accident at State Road 9 and East County Road 225N at about 8:39 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 23rd.

According to police reports, Victoria Hiatt, 51, of Hope had been traveling southbound on the highway when her vehicle rear-ended a truck driven by Jared Rutan, 30, Columbus. Rutan had been stopped while attempting to turn eastbound onto East County Road 225N from State Road 9 when his truck was hit from the rear.

Hiatt was transported by Lifeline to an Indianapolis hospital where her condition is unknown at the time of this release.

A 4-year-old child, who was in Rutan’s truck, was later transported to Columbus Regional Hospital where his condition is also unknown at the time of this release.

Deputy Mark Helms was called to reconstruct the crash.
