Norma Jean Stone Hitchcock, 79, formerly of Hope
Norma Jean Stone Hitchcock, 79, of Columbus, formerly of Hope, passed away Thursday Sept. 26, 2019 at her home surrounded by family and friends.
Born Sept. 14, 1940 in Greensburg, Norma Jean was the daughter of Elmer and Edith Jackson. She married Larry Stone July 26, 1959 and he preceded her in death in 1988. She then married Leon Hitchcock Sept. 9, 2002 and he preceded her in death December of 2016.
Norma Jean retired as a secretary at Wirth Construction after over 20 years of employment.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hope, Eastern Star, Royal Neighbors of America, Lions Club, American Legion Auxiliary, Crimson Chicks Red Hat Society and Dollars For Scholars.
She started the Hoosier Country Cloggers Dance Group. She was a volunteer for the Hope Bike Ride. She enjoyed scrapbooking and offering her gift of beautiful handwriting.
Norma Jean’s funeral will be Wednesday at 11:00 am at Norman Funeral Home in Hope with Pastor Dennis Chasteen officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 pm and Wednesday one hour prior to service time at the funeral home. Burial will be at Hope Moravian Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be donated to Dollars for Scholars or Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
Survivors include a son, William Michael (Dana) Stone of Nineveh; a daughter, Melanie Louise Stone (Brandon Sommers) of Loveland, CO; step-son, Carl (Dee Ann) Hitchcock of Hartsville; step-daughter, Sue Repp of Hope; grandchildren, Shelby (Ryan) Shigley of Yucca Valley, CA, Cody Stone of Fort Benning, GA, Grant Perrin of Fort Collins, CO, Jaxon Stone of Nineveh; step-grandchildren, Joey (Mollie) Hitchcock of Bloomington, Cody Hitchcock of Hartsville, Logan (Megan J.) Hitchcock of Witt, IL., Dore Repp of Hope, Haleigh Sanders of Nashville, IN, Daniel Sanders of Morgantown and Kendra Sanders of Morgantown; 8 great- grandchildren; a sister, Brenda Thorp of Port Charlotte, FL and a brother, George Jackson of Missouri.
Norma Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Edith; husbands, Larry and Leon; step-son-in-law, John Repp, niece, Ashley Stone; aunt and uncle, Tom and Wilma Rodgers; aunt, Florine Weightman, and grandmother, Velma Gibson.
