Timothy ‘Chip” Harris, 60, Columbus
Timothy ‘Chip” Harris, 60, passed away suddenly on Friday evening April 24, 2020 at his home south of Columbus.
Tim was born at the Washington County Hospital in Salem, IN to his parents, Donald and Patsy (Burke) Harris, on March 22, 1960. He was a graduate of Hauser H.S. in 1978 and married Kim (Fields) Harris October 14, 2006.
At Hauser, Tim was an honor student and excelled in basketball, baseball, track, and cross country. He received an appointment to the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado from Rep. Lee Hamilton and was a student there for 18 months before resigning his appointment and moving back to Hope. He had worked at Deckard Tool and Die shop at Hope for the last 35 years. He enjoyed reading, boating, fishing, and hunting and was always happy to invite friends and family over for a cookout or fish fry and a game of cards. He was a fan of Indiana University basketball, Pittsburgh Pirates baseball, and Minnesota Vikings football. He was a member of the Petersville United Methodist Church.
Mourning Tim’s passing is his wife, Kim Harris, his son Brock (Carrie) Harris and grandson Ian, of Hope; his daughter Lindsay Harris (Jason Campbell) of Columbus; and his parents, Donald and Patsy Harris of Hope. Survivors include his two sisters Jennifer (Dan) Villiger of Columbus, and Tracy (Jess) Kuncar of Santa Clarita, CA, and a brother Mike (Marilyn) Harris of New Mexico; also surviving are his step-daughter Casey (Justin) DeSpain of Hartsville and step-son Chad Fields of North Vernon, and his in-laws Jerry and Janet Ault of Columbus. Other survivors are two step-granddaughters, two nephews, two nieces, and a number of aunts, uncles, cousins, a host of friends, and Buck, his black lab. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Clyde and Berniece Harris, Orville and Versa Burke and four cousins, Brett Myers, Josh Williams, Tammy Walker, and Patricia Simpkins.
A private family service will take place at Norman Funeral Home. Cremation will follow. A memorial service will take place at a future date. Memorials in memory of Tim may be directed to the “Student’s Fund of Hope non-profit” to benefit students and families in the Hope school system; the address is 13051 River Grove Dr. Columbus, IN 47203.
