Registration underway for free tax filing help

By United Way of Bartholomew County-

Press Release

United Way of Bartholomew County will offer free income tax filings for those living or working in Bartholomew County through the VITA and AARP programs from February 5 through April 8 this year.

Reservations will be taken on a first-come first-serve basis.

Last year’s Free Income Tax Assistance programs served over 1,000 local residents and collectively saved residents over $100,000 in taxpayer fees.

The programs offer free tax filings to those living or working Bartholomew County who make $60,000 or less, persons with disabilities, elderly and limited English-speaking taxpayers who need assistance preparing their own tax returns. IRS-certified volunteers provide confidential and secure basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals. Volunteer tax preparers also help to ensure that families and individuals receive qualified tax credits, including the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC).

The  programs will help United Way to forward its mission of increasing the financial stability of Bartholomew County residents.

Free income tax assistance appointments will be held at the United Way Firehouse on 13th Street and Mill Race Center in Columbus.

Those interested in scheduling free tax filing should call the tax appointment line at 812-375-2216 to schedule their appointment.
