Sectional: Jets Fall Just Short
At the 1A Southwestern Sectional Wednesday, the 7:30 p.m. game featured the Hauser Jets (7-16) and the Oldenburg Academy Twisters (15-7) and ranked 12th.
On paper, many in attendance likely thought the game would be dominated by Oldenburg since a game in the middle of February between the two was a 32 point win for the Twisters. However, Hauser and Oldenburg have had several very competitive games over the years. This one would end up being a classic.
Hauser simply controlled the tempo of the game. The basketball would be held until the Oldenburg's zone became more active. Then, there would be great perimeter passing as well as to the top of the key or dribbling penetration often leading to good shots close to the goal. The cheer block of the Twisters would shout out “Boring” at times, but I found it to be great coaching strategy and highly effective due to the self-discipline of our players.
The largest lead by Hauser was five points in the first and second quarters. Oldenburg's largest lead was three in the first, third, and the fourth quarters with that being the margin of victory at the end of the game. The Jets had a chance to tie the game and force overtime only to see a three-pointer go deep in the basket and out.

It wasn't all that long ago that I had a conversation with Coach Sibbitt during the sectional for our Lady Jets. Even though he has a rich basketball history as a player and coach, I suspect this game will always be ranked among his top experiences.
For the two seniors and their families, Trey Johnson and Jackson Paradise, we thank you for your commitment to the program and wish you the very best.
