Look for the Helpers
“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news,” Mr. Rogers famously advised, “my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’”
I've been finding a bit of comfort in this advice.
In our own community we have the Flat Rock-Hawcreek School Corporation Food Service employees who are still providing lunches for children when they cannot physically be at school through the grab and go program.
Student's Fund of Hope has slightly refocused their efforts to deliver supplies, medication and groceries to the elderly, disabled and those with special needs.
We may not be able to physically gather in churches any longer for worship, but many area churches are broadcasting sermons via Facebook. The wife of St. Louis crossing native Scott Andrews, Dawn, has refocused her business from hand made lip gloss and bath bombs to hand sanitizer production, a product currently in high demand.
Crafters and seamstresses have taken to using their skills and fabric stashes to sew masks for first responders, doctors and nurses.
I encourage you to check on your friends, neighbors, loved ones, the elderly in your neighborhood and look for the helpers. Be one if possible.
