Hope man arrested after standoff with SWAT team
By Hope Police Department-
Hope Police were called to 125 Walnut St. on a report of a domestic dispute/fight in progress at about 3:30 p.m. Sunday.
When officers arrived, they encountered Gregory Carter Jr. 32 years of age. During the course of the investigation, a female claimed she had been battered by Carter and informed officers that he currently had four outstanding warrants out of Bartholomew County. Carter then retreated inside the residence and locked officers out.
Several attempts were made to try to get Carter to come out and give himself up. A search warrant was then obtained to enter the residence. The Bartholomew County SWAT team was called due to it being a barricaded subject.
SWAT officers deployed tear gas inside the residence in an attempt to get Carter to come out. At approximately 7:22 p.m. Carter exited the residence and was taken into custody by Bartholomew County SWAT Officers.
Carter was transported to Columbus Regional Hospital to be medically cleared before being transported to the Bartholomew County Jail. In addition to the outstanding warrants, he is facing preliminary charges of battery in the presence of a minor, resisting law enforcement, residential entry.
