Carl Everett (Butch) Wright, 79, Flat Rock

Carl Everett "Butch" Wright, 79, of Flat Rock passed away Wednesday August 24, 2022 at Major Hospital.

Born May 25, 1943 in Indianapolis Carl was the son of Frank and Ethel Teets Wright. He graduated from Waldron High School. He served in the U.S. Navy. He married Charlene Davis November 24, 1967 and they celebrated their 54th anniversary.

Carl retired from Cummins Engine Co. in 1996 after 34 years of service. After retiring from Cummins he worked in maintenance at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway which he loved. He had also been employed at Miller’s Merry Manor and Greentree Assisted Living in maintenance.

Carl and Charlene had lived in Tennessee for 14 years before moving back to Flat Rock to be closer to their family. He especially loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Carl is survived by his wife, Charlene of Flat Rock; children, Christine Elliott of Hope, Carla (William) Turner of Flat Rock, Carrie (David) Wise of York, SC; grandchildren, Whitney (Josh) Rooks of Flat Rock, Derek (Morgan) Turner of New Palestine, Daniel (Katelyn) Elliott of Hope, Joshua (Darian) Elliott of Columbus and Jacob (Cristyn) Elliott of Shelbyville; 12 grandchildren; a sister, Shirley Knoll of Waldron; Frank Wright, Jr. of Spring City, TN and his beloved dog Lady.

Cremation is planned and there will be a funeral Friday September 2 at 4 p.m. at Mt. Auburn Christian Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the church. Carl’s cremains will be buried at Flat Rock cemetery at a later date. Arrangements were entrusted to Norman Funeral Home in Hope.

Memorial contributions may be donated to Mt. Auburn Christian Church or American Heart Association.

Carl was a member of Mt. Auburn Christian Church, American Legion and the Diesel Union through Cummins and the American Legion.

He enjoyed watching NASCAR races, going to casinos, flea markets and yard sales. He loved to tinker around the house and do yard work. He had a love for black bears and would make them out of wood. He enjoyed traveling, especially cruises.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Patricia Jenks; son in law, Rick Elliott and a niece, Tammy Knoll.
