Town Council Candidates

Two community minded local women have signed up to run for two town council seats.  Republican Council member Clyde Compton and Democratic Council Member Jerry Bragg hold the seats open for re-election this year.  Stephanie Long and Shanon Pittman are seeking the seat held by incumbent Councilman Compton.  No one has filed to run for the Democratic seat.

Long is one of the driving forces behind Students' Fund of Hope.  She is also a successful local businesswoman, serving as president of Indiana Custom Fabrication, and is an accountant with Long's Accounting Services.  When asked why she wanted to run for town council Long stated, "I grew up in Hope, and now I'm raising a family of my own here.  My decision to run for town council was based on many factors but primarily on a desire to see the town move in a positive direction.  I want to bring the voice of families to the town council and work towards bringing more restaurants and businesses into our surprising little town.  Over the next few weeks, I will be sharing my goals and motives more in depth and hopefully can gather some feedback form the community on what direction they would like to see our town go."

Shanon Pittman is also a force for good in the community.  She has been employed at Flat Rock-Hawcreek School Corporation as the Food Service Manager for four years.  She also heads the local foreign exchange student program.  When asked why she wanted to run for town council Shanon gave the following statement,  "I am running for Hope town Council because this is my hometown, and I could not imagine raising my family anywhere else. As a homeowner, parent, & now grandparent I want to be sure our town stays a great and safe place where families are proud to reside for generations to come. I will work hard and make sure your voice is heard. I have a hope to one day see safe sidewalks around our school for the students walking/biking each day. My experience with intercultural inclusion and cultural conflict while working for Council on International Educational Exchange for over 10 years and team relations development while working within the food service department at Flat Rock-Hawcreek for over four years are essentials I will use to be an effective Hope Town Council member."

Former councilwoman Nellie Meek is pleased saying the announcement is,  "Great news for the Town of Hope. We have two women who love this town. They are highly intelligent and have signed up to run for the two at large seats. Thank you Stephanie Long and Shanon Pittman, you both are in a position to know all about our town and what is going on at the schools and with the workforce. You care about all of it, and we couldn't be happier to have you on the ballot."

Present council members, Clyde Compton and Jerry Bragg, will be contacted soon.
