Herman Frye, Jr., 88, Hope

Herman Frye, Jr., 88 of Hope passed away Monday April 4, 2022 at Miller’s Merry Manor.

Born August 20, 1933 in Jackson County, KY he was the son of Lansford Herman and Sarah Elizabeth Napier Frye.

Herman moved to Indiana with his family in 1940 residing in the Metamora area through his childhood.

He married Cynthia Mann George November 27, 1995 and she survives.

He retired from Federal Mogul BCA in Greensburg after 33 years of service.

He served in the U.S. Army for 2 years and 1 year in active duty for Army Reserves.

Herman was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Metamora for over 60 years. He was an honorary Kentucky Colonel.

He farmed and raised Regular Quarter Horses and Herford Cattle. He established Walnut Fork Kennel raising Black and Tan Hounds.

Herman enjoyed gardening, camping, fishing and watching the hummingbirds at the feeders he put out.

He loved music and played his guitar in several bands over the years.

Herman is survived by his wife Cynthia of Hope; step-children, Todd (Karen) Franklin of Chester, VA, Kelly (David) Ellis of Hope, Mike George of Bokeelia, FL. And Hope (Randy) Swisher of Columbus; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; step brothers and sisters, Jim Milbourn, Mary Moore and Rose Robinson; a special nephew, Lonnie (Barb) Frye of Connorsville and several other nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

There will be a private graveside service officiated by Pastor Tom Marshall at Hope Moravian Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by Bartholomew County Veteran’s Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be donated to the donor’s choice of charity.

Herman was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Steven Curtis Frye and siblings, Gertie Marlene Frye Rains, Silas William Frye, Goldie Lee Frye York, John Euel Frye and Edgar Paul Frye.
