POW MIA Ceremony
September 16, 2022 at 6:30 PM at the Bartholomew County Memorial for
Veterans behind the Courthouse. Rain or Shine
The ceremony usually lasts 45 minutes. There will be a reading of the 55 names of
the service men and women from our area that were either declared POW, MIA or
both. The special guest speakers this year will be Sandra LaBarbera and her
brother, Ernest Walke Jr. Their father Ernest Walke Sr. was in the force that
liberated Paris and was later captured by the Germans.
Also participating will be:
~ Columbus Indiana Children’s Choir
~ Vocalist, Harvey Leggett, Pastor and Former Marine
~ Bugler, Michael Schmelz, Columbus City Band
~ Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard
~ Southern Indiana Pipes and Drums
Everyone in our community should be given the opportunity to pause for a moment
to honor and remember those who have given so much for our freedom. Over
80,000 Military Personnel remain unaccounted for since WWII. Their families
still wait for their return. Source: DPAA.mil
“You Are Not Forgotten” Is not a slogan – It’s a mission.
I could use your help!
I am sure that they, and those they left behind, would greatly appreciate anything
you can do to help that their memory and their sacrifice be remembered.
Sincerely,
Bob Miller, USA Vietnam (67-68)
