Sharon A. Smith, 82, Columbus

Sharon A. Smith, 82, of Columbus, IN. passed away at 4:52 a.m. Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.

Sharon was born July 13, 1940, in Bartholomew County, Indiana, the daughter of Howard McKinley and Elvessa Violet VanBlaricum Prior.

She worked at the Rovair Shirt Factory, Cummins Engine Company and held numerous positions at the Indiana Department of Transportation before her retirement. Sharon was a member of the American Legion Post #24, Eagles Lodge #741 and the Columbus Moose Lodge #398. Spending time with family, especially her grandchildren, was something she looked forward to. Often times, Sharon would spend time with friends playing bingo or “Pull Tabs” at one of the local lodges.

Survivors include her daughter, Lorrie (Edwin) Cruz; son, Daniel W. Smith, Sr. both of North Vernon, IN.; grandchildren, Travis (Rachel) Wiley of Elizabethtown, IN., Delano (Brittany) Cruz of Columbus, IN., Taylor Cruz, Daniel W. (Haley) Smith, Jr. both of North Vernon, IN., Dillon (Rachael) Wiley, also of Elizabethtown, IN.; great grandchildren, Austin Wiley, Wade Wiley, Hayden Wiley, Gunner Wiley, Evelynn Cruz; sister, Lovell Blake of Hope, IN.; brother, David (Sue) Clason of Columbus, IN. several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; children, Deborah Leora Smith, Sondra Denise Wiley and brother, Dennis V. Prior, Sr. along with several aunts and uncles.

In keeping with the family’s request, cremation will take place and a memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 5, 2023, at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Rev. Tim Tallent officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of service Friday at the funeral home.

Inurnment will be at Garland Brook Cemetery Mausoleum.
