Jerry J. Maley, 83, Columbus

Jerry J. Maley, 83, of Columbus, God took him by the hand at 2:28 a.m. Saturday, December 2, 2023, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.

Mr. Maley was born February 29, 1940, in Columbus, the son of Joseph C. and Dorothy M. Neptune Maley.

He married his high school sweetheart, Carol G. Hutton October 17, 1959.

Jerry retired from Premier Ag in 2004 after 20 years of service.

He was faithful member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.

He enjoyed spending time with family, farming, fishing, camping, square dancing and playing euchre.

He was formerly employed at Irwin Union Bank, Golden Foundry and Essex Castings.

Jerry was actively involved with the Orphan Grain Train, serving as a board member and vice president.

Survivors include his wife, Carol of 64 years; children, Scott (Janet) Maley, Rick Maley, John Maley and Annette Gambill all of Columbus; ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and his sisters, Rebecca Mobley of Greensburg and Janelle (Jim) Powell of Hope.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son Tony Maley.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 7, 2023, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. Tim Carter officiating.

Family and friends may gather for a time of visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street and 10 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church.

He will be laid to rest at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana, Orphan Grain Train, St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, St. Peter’s School Cafeteria or donor’s choice of charity.
