Gloria Jean Dettmer, 80, Columbus

Gloria Jean Dettmer, 80, passed away Thursday, December 7, 2023, at Columbus Regional Hospital. Gloria was born September 3, 1943, in Morgan City, Louisiana to parents Henry and Irene Everroad.

She graduated from Hauser High School in 1961 and was a long-time member of St. John’s Lutheran Church at White Creek. She married Paul Dettmer on April 27, 1985. Gloria was a talented cake decorator and candy maker. In 2005, she began her own cake decorating business, Wedding and Specialty Cakes by Gloria.

Gloria served as secretary and treasurer, and most recently, Chapter Director of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association (GWRRA).

Gloria was a lover of all things “Pioneer Woman”. She enjoyed riding motorcycles and traveling all over the world with her husband, Paul. Additionally, she loved to watch NASCAR racing, The Colts, and The Sci-fi channel.

Gloria is survived by her husband, Paul Dettmer; her children, James Essex of Hope, Teres Bingham of Columbus, Joshua (Dishi) Dettmer of Chesapeake, VA, and Jennifer (Scot) Harker of Columbus; grandchildren, Evan Bingham, Jonah Harker, Avery Harker, and Jacob Dettmer; her sisters, Elizabeth Dean, Rosa Nicholson, and Juanita Scott; and brother, Leroy Everroad.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Johnny Everroad; and her special grandmother, Blanche Everroad who raised Gloria from a young age.

A funeral service for Gloria will be held Thursday, December 14 at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church at White Creek. Burial will follow at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery.

Friends may gather for visitation on Wednesday, December 13 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th Street. Additional visitation will be held at church one hour prior to the service on Thursday.

Memorial donations in her name may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church or White Creek Lutheran School.
