Local Church Honoring First Responders Saturday

Hope area residents are invited out for Honor Our Heroes a free pork chop dinner in recognition of area servicemen and women offered by Pastor John Marquis and Hope First Wesleyan Church from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the church, located at 733 Washington St. in Hope.

“It’s really, ideally, going to be us being able to love on our local heroes,” Marquis says. “The real first responders who are on the front lines every day.”

Saturday’s event will be a casual get together featuring live music from local Christian band favorite, Sons of I Am, throughout, Marquis says. There will also be some surprise gift certificates given away, he adds.

Marquis, who spent more than six years in social work and recently left his position, says he noticed a troubling trend that seems to be exacerbated by social media.

“There’s been a lot of decay in our support with our local heroes lately,” he says. “There are so many things out there bashing our heroes. I went into prayer and the Lord laid this on my heart as an opportunity to show them that not everybody is an enemy of them and they are supported and loved.”

All are invited and welcome to come share in this uplifting event and show their appreciation for our area first responders, Marquis says.

And there is certainly one message Marquis hopes resounds.

“We are a church that cares about our community and about our heroes,” he says.
