Exploring Innovation: Opportunities Abound at Hauser's 2nd Annual Career Fair

By By Bradley Dickens-

Like it always has, Hauser Junior Senior High School is thinking innovatively to help prepare students for their future. Last week the school held its second annual career fair. Building on the success of last year’s career fair, the school expanded to over 50 companies and organizations that took part.

“It has been such a cool opportunity to develop community partnerships and expose students to what life can be like beyond high school,” said Aleesa Dickerson, Agriculture Teacher and FFA Advisor. “Students are talking about their plans and have more direction when they know what is available. We are excited to continue to grow the expo and represent more opportunities that students can pursue locally and beyond.”

This year, Hauser students from Waldron High School and Southwestern (Shelby) High School also took place in the expo.

“As a small school, it is a lot of work to put an event together like the expo. We invited many schools from Shelby, Decatur, and Bartholomew counties to make it available for them and make the work more meaningful for us. Waldron and Southwestern were the only two schools who elected to attend,” Dickerson said.

Students got to meet with a variety of companies, colleges, trade unions, and branches of the military. The students took time from their classes to walk the expo and meet with the organizations that interested them. This year, each student was given a Bingo card to fill in based on questions that the participating organizations could answer.

“Each year, we look at industries or professions that were not adequately represented the previous year. The FFA officer team thinks of their personal connections, and we build the list,” Dickerson added. “We know that the medical professions have not been well represented the last couple of years as they are understaffed, and it is difficult to find someone to attend. We would really like to develop some more partnerships in that field to have better representation at our expo.”
