I read the note once again
Written by hard working hands
For a job that took hours
With love, no charge-Dad
We gathered in the room of Mom and Dad
The one they married in many years ago
Within their old country home
Memories of Dad flooded us all
Hospice stated it would not be long
His eighty-eight years would soon end
We stayed close to his side
Holding his hand, wanting to hold it forever
Scriptures we read softly
One after the other with tears flowing
From the Old Testament through the New
Our minds, hearts, and souls seeking peace
Then, there were the final thank-yous
I thanked him for my teaching degree
My younger sister her mechanic skills
And my older sister for the move back home
With the last thank you and kiss
He took his last earthly breath
His spirit left this world
To be with the Master Fixer
He was the best man we knew
Always there for us no matter what
Loved his country and his flag
And loved us every minute of the day
Every place we turn and look
We see his special care and touch
The Fixer we called him
And his legacy lives on
His children will make sure
And his grandchildren and great-grandchildren too
Knowing their roots and wings
Grew because of one humble and inspiring man
Now, he is hearing from The Greatest
With love, no charge
