Veola Jessee, 99, Hope

Veola Jessee, 99, of Hope, passed away on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at Miller’s Merry Manor.
Born on April 27, 1923 in Adair County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of William C. and Nora Barnes England. She married Robert Eugene Jessee on July 15, 1942, and he preceded her in death on June 10, 1972.
Before retirement, Veola worked at the meat counter at Clouse’s IGA. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Hope. In earlier years, she had volunteered at Hospice.
Veola enjoyed going to church and listening to gospel music.
Survivors include her sons, Darrell (Mae) Jessee of Hope and Jim Jessee of Hope; grandchildren, Gary Jessee, Greg (Dee) Jessee, Kevin (Tara) Jessee, and Melinda Barriger; great-grandchildren, Karli Jessee, Rilee Jessee, Regann Jessee, Ryker Jessee, Ryston Jessee, Maylee Barriger, Addy Barriger, Jake Barriger, Nate Barriger, Ryan Barriger, Yogi Barriger; and Travis (Rhea) Gatewood; and great-great-granchildren, Tryston and Jack Gatewood.
Veola was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; daughter, Loetta Mae; daughter-in-law, Connie Jessee; and five siblings that passed away during infancy.
A funeral service for Veola will be held on Saturday, January 14 at 12 p.m. at Norman Funeral Home with Pastor Dennis Chasteen officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Hawcreek Cemetery.
