Annette Ziegler, 82, of Columbus, Indiana, passed from her earthly life to be with her daughter, Patricia Ann in Heaven, June 16, 2023, at her home with her husband, Gary and other family members by her side.
Annette was born March 15, 1941, in Shelbyville, Indiana, the daughter of Roy and Evelyn Courtney. Annette attended Flat Rock High School in Shelby County for eleven years until the school consolidated to the new Southwestern High School where she was the first graduate to receive a diploma in 1959.
Annette married her high school sweetheart, Gary, October 29, 1961, at Flat Rock United Methodist Church. They had three children, Gary Stephen, Patricia Ann (Chris) Busch, and Mark (Michelle). They had grandchildren, Zachary, Courtney, Cameron, Morgan, and Katie and five great-grandchildren.
Annette was secretary for Fairlawn Presbyterian Church in Columbus for nineteen years where she made many lifelong friends, especially, Pat and Wilma, the lunch gals. She was also secretary at Trinity United Methodist Church in Madison for a while.
Annette and Gary are members of Asbury United Methodist Church, there they took part in Pit Stop Lunch for high school students, known by students as The Taco Church, sometimes they would feed over a hundred students each Thursday that school was in session.
Annette also played in the bell choir where she was a member for many years, she really enjoyed her fellow ringers.
Annette was famous for her homemade noodles, her noodles were in demand by her family, she would start making noodles in August for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners.
Annette and Gary loved to cruise; they took many cruises throughout the Caribbean. They cruised to the Panama Canal to see the new canal being built and returned after completion. Their last cruise was to Belize and Cuba before it was closed to U.S. tourism.
Annette and Gary attended all of their children's and grandchildren’s events whether locally or out of state, even as far as California.
Annette and Gary helped organize the “Flat Rock lunch group” for anyone that attended Flat Rock School at Willow Leaves Restaurant in Hope, Indiana, the first Thursday of each month.
Annette loved people and they loved her back. She was kindhearted, loved to laugh, and enjoyed being with family and friends. Her smile was contagious to everyone she met; her daughter was just like her mother.
Survivors include her husband, Gary; sons, Stephen of Westport and Mark (Michelle) of Seymour; son-in-law, Chris Busch of Lillington, North Carolina; brother, Max (Jan) Courtney of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Zachary (Taylor) Ziegler of Greensburg, Courtney Marie Busch of Lillington, North Carolina, Katie (Zach) Flinn of Reddington, Cameron Ziegler of Seymour, and Morgan Ziegler of Seymour; five great-grandchildren.
Annette was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Patricia Ann Busch on January 3, 2020.
The celebration of life will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 22, 2023, at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home, 1029 Washington Street, Columbus; Pastor Nick Robinson will officiate.
Family and friends may gather for visitation from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home. Annette will be laid to rest at the Garland Brook Cemetery.
The family asks that memorial contributions be made to Asbury United Methodist Church Bell Choir or Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
