Mother's Day Art Class Debuting Friday

More than 75 people have signed up for the debut of “Mommy & Me, Grandma & Me, Person & Me” painting event at 6 p.m. Friday at the Hope Moravian Church, located at 202 Main Street in Hope, and organizers are hopeful the event builds momentum for future offerings of its kind.

True to the nature of SFOH events, the class sold out in short order soon after it was announced.

“We had a waitlist and went ahead and got approval to move the event to the Moravian Church gym,” says SFOH Founder Whitney Budd. “We wanted to do this one definitely for Mother’s Day.”

Like so many SFOH offerings, it's about making memories, Budd says.

Leading the painting class is Amber Whittington, art teacher who facilitates the SFOH’s Saturday Art Club.

Pre-sketched canvases with prepackaged supplies will meet the aspiring painters when they arrive Friday evening.

“They are going to come in, pick up their kit and go sit at a table and complete it with their families,” Whittington says. “I am really excited because I am trying to keep it really simple so the younger kids can do it.”

Refreshments will be served, Whittington adds.

The SFOH is not collecting any money from the event, Budd says, as all proceeds go directly to Whittington for art supplies and to help fund future art club activities.

“It is important we get people to paid events like this so she can continue to offer the free classes to the kids on Saturdays,” Budd says. “It is just important to do that and offer it to the community.”
