Game Report: Lady Jets Fall to South Ripley 11/04

By Kyle Shipp, Hauser Jr.-Sr. HS Head Girls' Basketball Coach

The Lady Jets hosted sectional foe South Ripley on Saturday night in last year's sectional championship rematch.

The Jets utilized good defense and timely 3-point shooting to trail 11-9 after the first quarter.  The game continued to go back and forth through the second quarter as the Jets never led, but only trailed by 2 points multiple times.  The Jets inability to capitalize on collecting a defensive rebound helped Sout Ripley win the second quarter by a score of 10-7 and take a 21-16 half time lead.  The Jets again couldn't find the basket to start the 3rd quarter and shot 26 percent on the night to surrender a 9-2 run that helped break the game open.  South Ripley again used second chance points and transition points to extend its lead.  South Ripley collected 8 second chance points and produced 14 transition points on the night. The Jets again turned the basketball over 21 times compared to South Ripley's 16 and aloud South Ripley to shoot 17 free throws.

The Jets were led in scoring by junior guard Norah Berkenstock with 13 points going 6 of 8 from the free throw line to lead the team.  She also collected a team high 4 assists.  Senior guard Erykah Everroad scored 9 points on 3 3-pointers and led the team in steals with sophomore Braelyn Williams with 3 apiece.  Williams also had 3 points.    Everroad also led the team in deflections with 4.  Senior forward Mattie Foster again led the team in rebounding with 6 rebounds.  Senior Bella Kilps scored 2 points, and freshman Abby Manley scored 3 points to round out the scoring for the Jets.

The Jets are now 0-2 on the season.

The JV Team was led in scoring by Freshman Kennedy Konradi.  She also led the team in assists with 2, deflections with 7, steals with 4, and was named player of the game.  Freshman June Berkenstock led the team with 6 rebounds, and junior Willa Wetzel went 2 or 2 from the field to lead the team in the field goal % category.  The JV Team was defeated in a very good contest to move to 0-2 and will travel to Scottsburg on Tuesday for a JV only game starting at 6 p.m.  They will be back home vs. Greensburg on Thursday starting at 6 p.m. before the varsity plays Milan.
