As a nod to Hope's German heritage, the second annual Weihnachten German Christmas Market will return to the Hope Town Square beginning at 5 p.m. Friday for a two-weekend run.
Offered alongside the Yellow Trail Museum's Christmas of Yesteryear this weekend, the market will be open from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and 12 to 8 p.m. Saturday with the same hours set for next weekend.
Sponsored by the Community Center of Hope, the market will feature a variety of vendors and activities intended to bring a bit of Old World, German-inspired holiday cheer to the south side of the Square.
From the sale of handcrafted treasures, including jewelry and Christmas-themed items and decor, to delicious dishes, such as Weihnachten staples of potato salad and sausage and Christmas cookies, known as Platzchen, the market has something for everyone.
The market will also feature tractor-drawn hayrides that will allow visitors to relax and take in the holiday lights and decor as they meander throughout Hope's downtown area.
A portion of the proceeds raised during the market will benefit the Community Center of Hope, says Ashley Mack, an administrator with the nonprofit.
