Sylvia M. Baxter, 78, a resident of Hope, Indiana, passed from this life at 12:25 a.m. Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
Mrs. Baxter was born in Columbus, Indiana, November 27, 1944, the loving daughter of Roy and Esther Stanfield Kline. She was the wife of Terry D. Baxter, to whom she was faithfully married to for nearly 52 years from August 30, 1969, until his death on July 22, 2021.
Early in life, Mrs. Baxter worked in bookkeeping for Public Service Indiana and then started a 49-year career as an accountant at the Brown County Inn in Nashville.
Mrs. Baxter was a member of New Zion United Methodist Church in Columbus and New Bethel Methodist Church in North Vernon. She also enjoyed membership in the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association (NMLRA). She enjoyed attending craft bazaars and she had a passion for sewing and crocheting.
Surviving to cherish her memory are her sons, Donald T. (Michele) Baxter of Columbus and Joe-D M. (Kyra) Baxter of Elizabethtown; grandchildren, Marshall Baxter, Alisha Baxter-Spencer, Makayla Baxter, Allyson Baxter, and Ethan Baxter; and great-grandchildren, Makalia Baxter, Avery Spencer, Serenity Spencer, and Jensen Spencer.
Mrs. Baxter was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Esther Kline; husband, Terry; and a brother, Russell Kline.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 9, 2023, in the Garden of Devotion at Garland Brook Cemetery; the Reverend Connie Barr will officiate. There will be no visitation. Mrs. Baxter will be laid to rest next to her husband following the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Riley Hospital for Children.
