Hey, Hope! It's time to get Ready... Set... And... GLOW as organizers of the 2nd G.L.O.W. Like Sarah 5K Run encourage everyone to Go Gold in honor of National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

Sounds of music and celebration will echo throughout the Hauser campus to welcome walkers and runners of all ages and skill levels who gather at Hauser Jr.-Sr. High School, located at 9273 N. State Rd. 9, beginning at 5 p.m. September 30 for the return of the G.L.O.W. Like Sarah 5K Run hosted by the Hope FFA and G.L.O.W. Like Sarah Fund.

Participants in the 5K timed night run pass through color stations where they are splattered with glow paint and there are black lights placed throughout the course where they can see their paint glow in the dark, explains Aleesa Dickerson, event organizer and FFA Advisor at Hauser Jr.-Sr. High School.

“It is a good time for a good cause,” Dickerson adds.

The run made its debut with 100 participants in 2021 in honor of the late Sarah Rose Taylor, Hauser student who lost her cancer battle in September 2020, Dickerson adds.

“It was a year after Sarah had passed away and it was important to reflect on that,” Dickerson says. “We wanted it to be about all kids with childhood cancer, so this year we are trying to focus more on that.”

This year’s run is being held in coordination with the Tyler Trent Foundation, named for the Purdue student who died in January 2019 after battling a rare form of bone cancer while a student at the university, which also received a portion of the proceeds from the first G.L.O.W. Run.

Registration is $35 and open up to 7:30 p.m. the day of the event. The G.L.O.W. run begins at 8 p.m.

Participants are encouraged to wear white to make the most of their glowing paint splatters. Glow sticks are also encouraged and there will be photo opportunities following the race and after party.

There will be medals and awards for the fastest finishers in each age group, Dickerson says.
